Welcome to Del Rio Orthodontics

Everyone wants an attractive smile–and everyone ought to have a healthy one. That’s why othodontists do more than just straighten crooked teeth.

They possess expertise to correct irregularities of the bite and facial structures in the mouth and jaw area. The goal of orthodontic treatment is to achieve balance and harmony between the teeth and face for a lifetime of beautiful, healthy smiles.

It takes special training to become an orthodontist. In addition to receiving a dental degree, an individual must have at least two continuous years of advanced study in orthodontics as required by the American Dental Association. Only those who complete such a program are eligible for membership in the American Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Wayne A. Casson has successfully met these requirements and is a participating member of the American Association of Orthodontists.

This is what happens when you get new braces

Before you get your dentist, a dentist’s specialist will carefully examine your teeth and your bite using x-rays, images and prints. Before initiating dental treatment, you will get information about what to do and how long it will take.

Then, when the dentist is to be placed in place, the dentist or an orthodontist assistant sticks fixed plates of either metal or ceramic on the outside or inside of the teeth. This takes about an hour for a jaw.

It does not hurt and you do not need anesthesia. The glued plates can easily be removed when they are ready for it.

Between each plate you attach a metal wire. Longer in the back of the tooth, feathers or rubber cushions are fixed as the specialist can periodically tension to gently pull the teeth in the direction you want.

Feels a bit different at first

In the beginning it can tense something in your teeth and be sore. It may also take a little while before you get used to having a denture in your mouth.

If it scratches on lips or cheeks, you can relieve this with wax in areas where it hurts or call your clinic.

Many also wonder if the voice is affected, but according to research, it is not affected.

Adjusted approximately every six weeks

Controlling the teeth is a very slow process where the teeth move half a millimeter to a two millimeter a month depending on the teeth drip. This means that you go to the specialist approximately every six weeks for adjustment.

For how long?

Dental regulation can take anything from a few months to several years, usually between 1-2 years depending on how unusual the problem is and what wishes you have (how many teeth will be moved and in one or two jaws?)

You will get an estimated assessment of how long you will have the toothbrush.

What is required for a successful result …

For a successful result, perfect dental hygiene requires optimal collaboration with your specialist during treatment.

… and for the result to pass

After a tooth post, you can get a so-called retainer on the back of your teeth for results to keep. This is a thin thread glued to the back of the teeth.

Optimum is that you get a retainer on both the lower jaw and upper jaw. But sometimes it’s hard on the upper jaw.

Which people should get a retainer after a toothpick?

“100 percent of all, even if everyone does not get it today, but it will be more common,” says Frank van Diggelen, specialist in orthodontics.

There are also removable retainers that you sleep with to keep your teeth straight.

Invisible braces for your kid?

There are three types of braces for your kids. Read more!

Almost invisible braces

There are several different types of modern and almost invisible braces that can help you correct your bite errors and oblique teeth.

1. Almost completely invisible

Invisalign and Clear Aligner consist of translucent rails, which makes them barely visible.

2. Comfortable and painless

If you choose the translucent rails, there are no metal fasteners or sharp threads that can be strung or irritated in your mouth.

3. Flexible

These systems are flexible and can be removed for short periods. For example, at important meetings or meals.

4. Clear results

At the beginning of treatment you will receive a treatment plan and an estimated final result.

Classic braces

The braces are a classic dental position and a well-proven method of dental control.

1. Exact result

With the help of the precision that can be achieved with the fixed buccala apparatus, one can say that with this method one can achieve the most accurate results.

2. Tooth colored brackets

We now offer tooth-colored brackets for the classic rails, which makes it look smaller and becomes more aesthetically pleasing.

3. Sustainable results

This is a proven dentistry method and if you follow the dentist’s instructions, the result is very durable.

4. Can not be removed

Since the stitch is fixed and can not be removed, it is possible to be very accurate and precise in the final position of the teeth.

Invisible braces

Another option is braces affixed to the inside of the rack, such as Incognito or eBRACE.

1. Completely invisible treatment

This treatment is not visible because the fasteners are on the inside of the teeth.

2. Equal accurate results

The lingual dentures can give as accurate results as those attached to the outside of the teeth.

3. Equal sustainable results

Because the lingual models are located on the inside of the rack, the results can be compared to the results obtained with the systems on the outside of the rack. In order for the results to be sustainable, it is important to follow the dentist’s instructions.

4. Can not be removed

Because the tooth decay is stuck and can not be removed, the results become more precise and the final end position of the teeth can be very accurate.

Good luck choosing the right one!

Braces for children

Faulty bite is not quite uncommon among children and adolescents today and there are several different dental stands for children. The children and adolescents under the age of 21 who, according to the National Board of Health and Welfare’s assessment, have a more difficult bite error can be awarded a dental check check for free dental regulation of authorized clinics. Aqua Dental is such a clinic. If a child is awarded a dental check check, they will get a list of clinics together with the check. This to choose a clinic that feels good is available and can provide the child with the best care possible, a working bite and a big smile.

There are more different dental control methods and toothpicks for children to choose from. There are, among other things, removable toothpicks, such as Activator and Fixed Teeth, like the classic “rails”.

Removable braces

When selecting a detachable toothbrush we will make sure that it is comfortable and in addition we explain how to use and clean the toothbrush. When using only detachable toothbrush, we usually recommend that the amount of time taken is reduced gradually. We will of course state how this should be done. Most detachable teeth are used primarily to affect the growth of the jaws and to a lesser extent to move the teeth. The most common teeth, Activator, consist of acrylic resin plates either for the upper jaw or for both the lower and upper jaws, both are removable. We have many different types of dental flosses and the most commonly described here. However, there are many more in different shapes and sizes.

General Instructions

The toothbrush should be worn around the clock and only taken off when eating, at toothbrush and during sports unless other instructions are given. Especially in the first few days, it may be somewhat difficult to talk but it will get a lot better after a few days. There may also be sore stains in the mouth, but this is easy to fix at the clinic. Once the treatment is complete, a so-called positioner or retainer can be used to stabilize the result. The positioner is made of rubber and covers all the teeth. The positioner can also be used for contact sports, such as a tooth protector.

What types of braces are there?

The usual braces can be obtained either as fixed or detachable.

Fixed tooth position
Fixed tooth position is also called “rail”. At this tooth position, brackets (small plates) are bonded to metal or ceramic on the teeth. A metal wire is inserted through the bracket so that pressure is transferred to the teeth and legs. In this way the teeth can be straightened up, turned and moved back and forth.

Detachable braces
A removable braces is provided with metal anchors or simple metal hooks, so you can insert and remove it. The removable racks are used in several different cases:

Pump-type screwdrivers are used to expand for small toothed racks (expansion rails).
Retention plates are used to sleep at night after treatment with fixed teeth.
In the case of skewed bites (crossbones and scissors), these plates are used for the most part to correct teeth during sleep.

We also serve our large norwegian community with our very own norwegian dentist Kare Andersen.  She specializes in and has brought with her the knowledge of braces from Norway, the number one country in the world for braces. We are very thankful!

When should I have braces?

A dentist recommends a braces if you have an incorrect or obscene bite. The following situations are usually corrected with the dental position:

Strong spreading of the teeth, usually due to missing one or more permanent teeth (aplasia) (see Figure 1).
Severe congestion in the teeth (very oblique) (see Figure 2). It is difficult to maintain optimal oral hygiene and thus a greater likelihood of developing periodontal disease.
Big open bett, where the chew function and betting function are very impaired.
Very deep bite, where the teeth bite on the gums behind the front teeth and thereby cause damage (see Figure 3).
Heavily overbetted.
Heavily understated, also known as “bulldog teeth”.
In case of improper betting.
